Oh My Mahi!

Updated: Apr 8, 2022

Ever heard someone say they were dolphin fishing and you pictured flipper? No worries! The fish they are talking about looks like our picture here and is not related to the marine mammals also known as dolphins. They are talking dolphinfish, also called Mahi Mahi which you've probably seen on some fish taco menus.

The name mahi-mahi means “very strong” in Hawaiian and this fish will give you a fight when you hook one.

Mature male Mahi/Dolphinfish (known as "bulls") have prominent squared foreheads protruding well above the body. Females (known as "cows") have a rounded head.

Offshore fishing for Mahi is a great trip for our more experienced water warriors.
